The Michael Jordan of Pumpkins . . . LITERALLY

The record for “world’s largest gourd” is back in American hands! A 2,749-pound pumpkin grown in Minnesota just broke a world record for heaviest pumpkin ever grown. The old record was 2,702 pounds. That one was grown in Italy in 2021. The guy who grew this new world record pumpkin sold it for just under $25,000. But that only net him around 10 grand, because it cost $15,000 to grow (he did win an extra 30 grand for breaking the record). The first world championship was in 1974, and the winning pumpkin weighed 132 pounds! To put the size of this new world record pumpkin in perspective, the pumpkins we use for jack-o-lanterns are around 10 pounds, so it’s like 275 of those. This pumpkin could make at least 687 pumpkin pies. It’s also about as heavy as a walrus, a hippopotamus, or a Mazda Miata, with two ACTUAL Michael Jordans sitting in it. What I want to know . . . why do these HUGE punkin’ always look like Jabba the Hutt?
