This Week in Science:

The big science stories this week are: The FDA recently approved the first gene therapy to help a rare genetic form of deafness. Scientists are calling it a historic milestone, that could open the door to treatments for broader forms of hearing loss in the future (how cool is that). And archaeologists from Pompeii have used artificial intelligence for the first time, to digitally reconstruct the final moments of a man who tried to escape the eruption of Mount Vesuvius in 79 AD. The A.I. modeling recreated the victim shielding his head with a terracotta mortar, as volcanic debris rained down. Researchers say the project helps make archaeological discoveries more vivid, and accessible.
