This Week in Science: Sound Waves Putting Out Fires?

It’s time for a quick rundown of . . . THIS WEEK IN SCIENCE . . . and this is pretty amazing! California firefighters are testing out a device, that uses SOUND WAVES to put out flames. It was developed by former NASA engineers, and it works in milliseconds. The technology emits low-frequency infrasound, that disrupts the chemical reaction that fire needs to burn. It could mean a better option in the future, because it uses no water or chemicals. Which means it avoids water damage and toxic residue.
