Coalition Pushing Back Against Effort To Eliminate Property Taxes In Ohio
(ONN) – There are new developments in the battle over property taxes in Ohio as a statewide coalition is pushing back against a grassroots effort that wants to end all property taxes in the Buckeye State.
The grassroots group, the Ax Ohio Tax Committee is collecting signatures to try to get a constitutional amendment on the November ballot to abolish all property taxes.
They argue rising tax bills are pricing people out of their homes and politicians haven’t done enough to fix the situation.
Ohioans to Protect Public Services argues abolishing property taxes would hurt fire and police service, municipalities and schools and would lead to much higher sales and income taxes.
Supporters of the amendment argue the state could avoid raising other taxes by reducing government spending instead.
