UPDATE: Hancock County To Elevate To Level 3 Road Alert
UPDATE: Hancock County went to a Level 3 Road Alert at 2:57 p.m. on Sunday.
(From Hancock County Sheriff Michael Cortez)
Winter Weather Update: January 25, 2026 11:35 am
Hancock County remains under a Level 2 road advisory.
The road crews have been working hard today. Snowplows from the Hancock County Engineer’s Office, some townships, and the Ohio Department of Transportation have been out actively clearing and treating roadways across the county—a big thank you to these men and women for doing everything they can to keep Hancock County moving.
As of this update, many roadways remain snow covered, and in several areas the edge lines and center lines are not visible. Over the past three hours I’ve been out personally evaluating conditions, and traffic has been light.
The good news: since 8:00 AM, our office has not responded to any weather-related traffic crashes or disabled vehicles. That can change quickly, so please continue to use caution.
The plan moving forward is at the latest hour of 6:00 PM, Hancock County will elevate to a Level 3. I wanted to provide you with this information ahead of time, so you can plan accordingly and notify your employer to see if you need to report to work either tonight or Monday.
We’ll continue monitoring conditions and will share updates as needed. Stay safe, Hancock County.
Michael Cortez, Sheriff
WFIN: The following is an explanation from the Hancock County Sheriff’s Office about the three levels.
-A Level 1 Road Alert means roadways are hazardous, drive with extreme caution.
-A Level 2 Road Alert means roadways are extremely hazardous with blowing and drifting snow and/or flooding. Only those who feel it is necessary to travel should be on the roadways.
-A Level 3 Road Alert means most roadways are closed and extremely hazardous/flooded. Employees should comply with workplace policies or contact their employer. Violators may be cited.
