New Bill Would Give Authorities Quicker Access To Phone Data In Emergencies
(ONN) – A bipartisan bill moving through the Ohio House aims to give police faster access to cell phone data during emergencies.
House Bill 677 is known as the Kelsey Smith Act.
It would require wireless providers to immediately share location data if a missing person is in imminent danger.
Currently, police often face critical delays waiting for subpoenas.
The legislation is named after a Kansas teen whose body was found just minutes after phone records were finally released.
The law is already enacted in 31 states.
