Ohio Division Of Wildlife Bald Eagle Count
(From the Ohio Department of Natural Resources)
Thanks to 391 reports from January 7–21, our Ohio Division of Wildlife counted 715 bald eagles across the Buckeye State — 592 adults and 123 immature birds.
This incredible effort comes as the U.S. celebrates its 250th anniversary year in 2026. Bald eagles, once endangered, now thrive in Ohio thanks to decades of conservation. In fact, a 2025 census found 964 active nests in 87 of 88 counties!
Winter is prime eagle-viewing season! Look near rivers, lakes and wetlands. Popular spots include Magee Marsh, Mosquito Creek and Killdeer Plains Wildlife Areas. Remember: Stay at least 100 yards away from nests and birds to keep them safe.
