Suspected Dynamite Prompts Bomb Squad Response

On March 13, 2026, at 9:47 AM, the Hancock County Sheriff’s Office was dispatched to a residence in 7000 block of TR 94 in Liberty Township for a report of suspected dynamite located in a garage. Deputies arrived and spoke with the caller, who was cleaning out the garage when the items were located in a cabinet. The Allen County Bomb Squad was requested to respond.

Township Road 94 was shut down while investigating. Once the Allen County Bomb Squad arrived, the items were determined to be old road flares from the early 1970s. Once everything was determined to be safe, the evacuated residents were allowed to return.

Assisting at the scene were the Allen County Bomb Squad, Hancock County Emergency Management Agency, Liberty Township Fire Department, and HANCO EMS.
