Meta has introduced the safety feature to crack down on those sending unsolicited photos.

The blurring also protects teens who might be illegally sending nudes of themselves. In most cases, it’s against the law. 

Also, Meta found that teen boys are being caught up in sextortion cases where the young man is encouraged to send nudes to someone posing as a peer, but eventually, the teen gets threatened with exposure. Super 8 Vintage GIF by Tomorrow Television

If an Instagram account is linked to someone with a date of birth that indicates they are a teenager, the photo will be automatically blurred. 

There is an option to turn the blur off.
