‘Loudwire’ has looked back on auctions and sales to track the most expensive guitars of all time.

3. A Van Halen custom Kramer guitar played by the late Eddie Van Halen in the band’s “Hot for Teacher” video, which sold for nearly $4 million this year.

2. The 1969 Fender Mustang used by the late Nirvana Kurt Cobain in the band’s 1991 “Smells Like Teen Spirit” music, which video sold for $4.6 million.
