Why would anyone be banned from making returns this holiday season?
Major Retailers Tighten Return Policies Ahead of Holidays
In an effort to combat fraud, major retailers like Target, REI and Amazon are tightening their return policies this holiday shopping season.
REI says they’ll ban customers that frequently return merch from making exchanges or getting refunds, explaining, “In the interest of preserving this benefit for as many of our members as possible, we recently updated our policy to provide an exception for members that have abused it in the past.”
Target’s already refusing refunds suspect of fraud, and Amazon is charging processing fees for high-return items.
The National Retail Federation estimates that $100 billion was lost to return scams last year.
