WIC Programs Could Run Out Of Money If Government Shutdown Continues

The government shutdown has put the WIC program at risk of losing funding.

The program provides free, healthy food to low-income pregnant women, new mothers, and children under five years old.

States will not receive their next quarterly allocation of funds during the shutdown, which will potentially deny millions of moms and children access to nutritious foods.

WIC serves roughly 6.8 million people and relies on funding from Congress.

If the shutdown persists, WIC may run out of money by next week.
