A Bunch of Adults Will Celebrate Halloween This Year

An early Halloween poll found 79% of adults plan to celebrate it this year. But that doesn’t mean they’re dressing up for it. Less than half of adults planning to celebrate Halloween in costume (39%). People with kids at home are more likely to go big on Halloween. Here are a few more stats on how we’re planning to celebrate Halloween . . .

  1. 57% of adults who plan to celebrate will give out candy: 47% will decorate, 40% will carve pumpkins.
  2. A third of pet owners are looking at costumes for their pet: spending an average of $22 on them.
  3. Gen Z will spend the most overall: the average Boomer household (people between 61-79 years old), will spend $93 on candy, decorations, and costumes. Compared to $622 for Gen Z households (people between 13-28 years old).
  4. Having kids makes Halloween a lot more expensive: the average spend for parents is $652, for people without kids, it’s $215.
  5. Buying candy in bulk is our top money-saving strategy: 57% will do it, 24% will switch to less-expensive candy this year, 28% plan to reuse or borrow an old costume, and 38% will D.I.Y. their costumes or decorations.
