Men Are More Likely to Buy a New Phone . . . Just Because
40 years ago, no one would believe this: People in 2025 will spend $1,000-plus on a telephone every other year or so. A poll asked people WHY they buy a new phone, and here are the results:
- 25% said they just want a newer model.
- 24% said it’s because their current phone breaks.
- 24% said it’s because their current phone becomes too slow.
- 12% said it’s because they’re eligible for an upgrade, or will start a new plan.
Men are more likely to buy a new phone just because they want a new model. For women, it’s usually because their current phone breaks or becomes too slow. People were also asked how long they expect to own their current phone. The most common responses were “1 to 2 years” (23%), 10% said “more than five years”, while 12% said “less than one year”.
