Possibly the Only Connection Between Steely Dan, Weird Al, and Hulk Hogan?
By now you’ve probably heard that Rick Derringer died Monday, at the age of 77. But what you may not know is . . . to say this guy did just about EVERYTHING in his career would be an understatement. Of course Buckey fans know The McCoys “Hang On Sloopy”., and his solo hit “Rock and Roll, Hoochie Koo”. Over the years he did session work for artists like Todd Rundgren, KISS, and Barbra Streisand, produced for Cyndi Lauper, played the solo on Bonnie Tyler’s “Total Eclipse of the Heart”, won a Grammy for producing Weird Al Yankovic’s debut album “Eat It” (playing the guitar solo on the title track), he went on to produce Weird Al’s first SIX albums, he produced “The Wrestling Album” for the WWE, he appeared on 3 Steely Dan albums, and is rumored to be the “Ricky” in Steely Dan’s hit “Ricky Don’t Lose That Number”
