The TV Shows That Define the “American Experience”
In recognition of America’s upcoming 250th birthday, somebody has put out a list of the Top 50 TV Shows That Define the American Experience. These are shows that helped shape pop culture, reflected everyday American life, and defined generations of viewers. Here’s their Top 10 . . .
- “The Ed Sullivan Show” (1948 to 1971)
- “I Love Lucy” (1951 to 1957)
- “The Tonight Show” (1954 to present)
- “Star Trek” (1966 to 1969)
- “Jeopardy!” (1964 to present)
- “Sesame Street” (1969 to present)
- “MAS*H” (1972 to 1983)
- “Little House on the Prairie” (1974 to 1983)
- “Happy Days” (1974 to 1984)
- “Saturday Night Live” (1975 to present)
I like that Jeopardy made the list. It’s the one show that makes you feel smart… until somebody answers a question about 14th-century pottery in half a second.
