SPIRIT AIRLINES SHUTS DOWN

Spirit Airlines Ceases Operations

Spirit Airlines shut down early Saturday morning following failed negotiations for a $500 million bailout from the Trump administration.

The airline officially ceased all operations and flights at 3 a.m. Eastern time.

The massive shutdown immediately stranded thousands of travelers nationwide.

The sudden closure also leaves 17,000 workers without a job.

The company faced severe financial trouble and recently entered its second bankruptcy.

Company officials released a brief statement to address the situation. They wrote, “It is with great disappointment that on May 2, 2026, Spirit Airlines started an orderly wind-down of our operations.”

Following the abrupt shutdown, several major carriers, including American, Delta, and JetBlue, are implementing special measures to assist stranded passengers and displaced employees.

A major American airline has not gone out of business in 25 years.

Spirit Airlines was known for catering primarily to lower-income passengers with ultra-low-cost fares.
